Scientists have captured the first-ever close-up image of a dying star outside of the Milky Way galaxy. The star, WOH G64, is a red supergiant located 160,000 light-years away in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The image reveals an egg-shaped cocoon of gas and dust surrounding the star, indicating its final stages of life before it explodes as a supernova.
