The Uttar Pradesh Police have intensified their investigation into the recent violence in Sambhal, identifying over 100 stone-pelters through footage from mobile phones, CCTV, and drone cameras. Among these, 27 accused, including some minors, have been arrested. The police are probing multiple angles and questions to determine the cause and orchestrators of the violence. Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar assured that all those involved in attacking the police would be sent to jail, while no innocent person would face action. Key aspects under investigation include identifying who incited the crowd near Jama Masjid on the day of the violence and analyzing mobile data from the area to track active numbers and communication during the incident. The police are also recovering footage from damaged CCTV cameras and have sent 27 confiscated mobile phones for forensic analysis to uncover any pre-planning of the riots. Additionally, the police have identified suspicious social media handles, WhatsApp chats, and groups used to mobilize the crowd near the mosque. A special team is scrutinizing video footage from various sources, including drone footage, to identify the accused. Statements from local residents will also be recorded soon to advance the investigation. Among the 27 arrested, three are women. The names of SP MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and MLA Iqbal Mehmood’s son, Suhail Iqbal, have also surfaced in connection with the violence. Meanwhile, cases have been registered based on complaints from families of four individuals who died during the unrest.
