Patna: Prashant Kishor, renowned for his role as a political strategist, has officially ventured into politics with the launch of his Jan Suraj group as a political party. The newly-formed Jan Suraj Party plans to contest all constituencies in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. The party will be led by Manoj Bharti, a retired Indian Foreign Service officer. Kishor, who has been advocating for political reform, has vowed to lift Bihar's liquor ban if the party comes to power, channeling the revenue into improving the state's education system.

Kishor has been working towards redefining the political landscape in Bihar, aiming to shift voter priorities from traditional caste-based and populist politics to a more vision-oriented approach. Over the past two years, he has embarked on a state-wide campaign to engage with people and shape what he believes should be the key issues in elections.

Earlier this year, Kishor announced his readiness to transform Jan Suraj into a formal political entity, presenting it as a fresh alternative to the dominant parties in Bihar, the RJD and BJP. He argued that the state's politics has been monopolized by these two parties for nearly three decades, and it was time for a new force that is not rooted in dynastic politics but in a collective vision for the future.

The Jan Suraj movement was born after Kishor's brief association with Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) and his rejection of an offer to join Congress's "Empowered Action Group" due to concerns over the party's inability to address internal challenges.

Kishor’s grassroots approach has seen him travel extensively across Bihar, engaging with villagers to raise awareness about key issues such as education, agriculture, and employment. His mission is to inspire voters to prioritize the state's development over political pressures from established parties. He has also announced that the next phase of his political journey will focus on presenting concrete solutions to the challenges facing Bihar.
