DoE Unleashes $900M in Funding for Small Nuclear Reactors

The U.S. Department of Energy has opened applications for up to $900 million in funding to support the development of small modular reactors (SMRs). Funded by the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law, the Energy Department will offer up to $800 million for milestone-based first mover teams of utility, reactor vendor, constructor and end users while another to $100 million will go into addressing the gaps that have hampered the domestic nuclear sector including design, licensing, supplier development and site preparation.
