Meta's new AI policy banned in Brazil by National Data Protection Authority (ANPD). This decision was reportedly taken by the country to stop the Mark Zuckerberg's company from using people's public posts to train its AI systems.

Mumbai, July 3: Brazil's NAPD (National Data Protection Authority) suspended Meta's new AI privacy policy with immediate effect over risk of compromising individuals' personal data to train company's genAI systems. ANPD took this preventive step after officially publishing it in the official gazette in Brazil on Tuesday. Meta's updated AI privacy policy allowed the company to use public posts in its artificial intelligence systems. However, Brazil has put a hold on this processing, prohibiting Meta with immediate effect. Meta has previously faced several issues including recent related to allowing teens to see adult content on the platform with its suggestions in European Union. According to a report by Business Standard , Brazil was Meta's biggest market in terms of users. Meta's Facebook reportedly boasted around 102 million active users in Brazil out of the total 203 million population as per the 2022 census. A Meta spokesperson stated that Brazil does not allow the company to use the users' personal data to train artificial intelligence. A Meta spokesperson reportedly said that the company was disappointed in Brazil's decision and insisted that its methods complied with the country's privacy laws and regulations. He added that the country's step would be backward for innovation and competition in AI development. The spokesperson emphasised that it would further delay the process of bringing artificial intelligence to the people of Brazil.
