LUCKNOW: Newly elected Member of Parliament from Mohanlalganj, R K Chaudhary (65) has written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker , requesting him to replace the sengol which is installed next to Speaker’s chair with a large replica of Indian Constitution . Last year on May 28, during the inauguration of the new Parliament building Prime Minister Narendra Modi installed a sceptre (Sengol) from Tamil Nadu next to the Lok Sabha Speaker’s seat. The sceptre is five feet in length and has a Nandi, Lord Shiva’s sacred bull, on the top. Speaking to TOI, MP Chaudhary said, “Our constitution is a sacred text of Indian democracy, while Sengol i.e. the sceptre is a symbol of monarchy. Our Parliament is a temple of democracy and not the royal palace of any king or prince.” “Therefore, I have requested the Speaker that Sengol must be removed from the Parliament House and a huge copy of the Indian Constitution be installed in its place,” he added.
