Former US President Donald Trump took a victory lap and celebrated his debate performance against President Joe Biden at a campaign rally in Virginia. On Friday, a gleeful Trump strode onstage addressing a democratic-leaning crowd a day after the highly intense presidential debate. Fresh off the verbal battle, the former president continued to hurl insults at Biden calling him “grossly incompetent” and a “train wreck”. He went on to describe the upcoming 2024 US Presidential Elections as a “choice between strength and weakness, and competence and incompetence," POLITICO reported. “The question every voter should be asking themselves today is not whether Joe Biden can survive a 90-minute debate performance, but whether America can survive four more years of crooked Joe Biden in the White House,” he told the gathering. “In fact, I don’t know if we can really survive five more months," Trump gloated. Trump’s celebration of his performance at the debate became the main talking point from the very beginning when he asked the charged-up audience if they had “watched the debate”. “He studied so hard that he didn’t know what the hell he was doing,” Trump said, adding that it was Biden who secured his desired date, rules and television network for the debate. Trump hopes Democrats find a new alternative While addressing the rally, the former reality television star mentioned he does not believe that Democrats would replace Biden as their nominee. Immediately after the debate night performance, some officials from both parties speculated over the matter and names of California Governor Gavin Newsom, Vice President Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama started floating around. Similar sentiments were expressed by Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy who mentioned that Biden “won’t step aside” and the Democratic Party won’t be able to negotiate with him in this regard. “They created this problem and the only way ... Joe Biden can come off the ballot is he decides it,” McCarthy said. “Joe Biden is going to be the nominee. Joe Biden is not going to give it up,” he continued. “Why? Because Jill does not want to give it up either.” What Biden said after the debate A day after his weak performance at the debate, Biden on Friday vowed to keep fighting against what he called an existential threat to America. “I know what millions of Americans know,” Biden said. “When you get knocked down, you get back up.” During his charged-up speech at a campaign stop in North Carolina, the POTUS addressed the concerns about his age and his performance at the debate. “I don’t walk as easily as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to,” Biden said, addressing the widespread criticism of his Thursday performance. “But I know what I do know. I know how to tell the truth.” “I spent 90 minutes on a stage debating a guy who has the morals of an alley cat. I think he [Trump] set a new record for the number of lies told at a single debate," he added. Overall, only time will tell if the Democrats will continue with Biden or find a younger alternative.
