'You bowed down when shaking hands with PM': Rahul Gandhi to Lok Sabha Speaker

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi attacked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and said that he bowed down while shaking hands with PM Modi. Rahul Gandhi said, "I noticed something when you (Speaker Om Birla) shook my hand. When you shook my hand, you were standing upright. But when you shook Modiji's hand, you bowed down to him." Rahul further added that everyone should bow down to the Lok Sabha Speaker, and the entire opposition will show respect to the Speaker. However, the Speaker should not bow down to anyone. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday praised the victory of Samajwadi Party MP Awadesh Prasad from Faizabad Lok Sabha seat. Speaking in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said, "I asked Awadesh Prasad, what happened in Ayodhya and he said that I know from the day one that I am winning from Ayodhya-Faizabad Lok Sabha seat..." In his fiery speech, Rahul Gandhi also questioned the government and said, ""I was attacked on the orders of Prime Minister Modi. There were 20-plus cases (against me), (my) house was taken away, 55 hours of interrogation by the ED," Gandhi said. Despite these challenges, the MP from Rae Bareli expressed pride in the collective effort to protect the Constitution. "It feels nice that BJP people are now repeating 'Jai samvidhan' after me," he said. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha on Monday showed a poster of Lord Shiva while replying to the Motion of Thanks. However, the Speaker objected to showing the image of Lord Shiva, citing Lok Sabha rules. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday gave its consent for jailed Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, to take oath as MP on July 5. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh will pass an order on the plea on Tuesday. Rashid, an Independent MP from Baramulla who has been arrested in a 2017 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case, had moved the court seeking interim bail, or custody parole in the alternative, to take oath and perform his parliamentary functions. On June 22, a special court here had adjourned the matter and asked the NIA to file its response. On Monday, the NIA's counsel said Rashid's oath taking be subject to some conditions like not speaking to the media. He also said Rashid, who is in Tihar Jail, must complete everything within a day.
