Kolkata NGO launches campaign to reduce plastic pollution

In a bold move towards environmental stewardship , a Kolkata based NGO named Mrittika Earthy Talks, in collaboration with Red Bari, has launched a campaign aimed at combating plastic pollution on July 1. Recognising the urgent need for action, the organisation is spearheading efforts to advocate a ban on plastic usage. This initiative not only seeks to mitigate the detrimental impacts of plastic waste on ecosystems but also strives to foster a culture of sustainable living among the people of Kolkata. To motivate individuals to embrace eco-friendly alternatives and take meaningful steps towards a cleaner, greener future, environmental activist and founder of Mrittika Earthy Talks Foundation, Somini Sen Dua, said, “The climate is in a bad condition. Plastic is carcinogenic and non-biodegradable. If you just ban something, it doesn’t work because you have to find an alternative. We have found certain alternatives like upcycled cloth bags and bunting, bamboo toothbrushes , and flasks.” The campaign will distribute sustainable materials such as upcycled fabric bags, bamboo toothbrushes and flasks, organic paraben-free soaps, and potted plants, to name a few.
